“I’ll believe it when I see it,” I joke. I listen for a while. Lately I hadn’t been zoning people out so much. Well, that wasn’t true.. I was starting to not zone out certain people. I must get more socially acceptable with age or something. “I don’t see why they wouldn’t take you back.” I shrug my good shoulder when she stops talking.“That’s true. It’s just been weird not doing my normal thing.”“Not the kind I want to. Lately it’s been stomach crunches and a lot of cardio. I never realized how much I use my left shoulder. Even crunches are a pain.”“Partially. I only did yoga because I dated a yoga instructor at one point in time.”“Right, right. I forget you’re the most cultured out of any of us.”“Wasn’t sure if you would know what it meant.”…Aha.
“Why, Mr. Bateman, of course I know what it means.”
“Do I sense sarcasm?” I smile. “No, I’m hardly ‘the most cultured.’ I just do yoga on occasion.”
Hm. Bendy. I laugh. “Well, the better for you, I suppose. What kinds of exercises do you indulge in nowadays?”
“I’m sorry to hear that. There are always, you know, squats, lunges… that kind of thing. As much as I hate them, they work wonders.”
“It always is. Did you know I was once a dancer? I used to do everything — ballet, tap, jazz, the works,” I say with a wry smile. “Then, one day, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I got in an accident and… Broke my left leg. The funny thing was, I could dance much better after I healed than I could before the accident. That rarely happens. But the company wouldn’t take me back.” I don’t remember why I’m telling him this in the first place. “Regardless, now I can do better things. At the time it sucked, because I didn’t think I could do my normal thing, but… Ah, nevermind. Don’t mind me.” I don’t know why I’m talking. I shrug and drink my coffee.

I laugh lightly. “It’s fine.”

“Hopefully you’ve been able to avoid that kind of personality since then.” I pause. “Sorry. None of my business.”
